Scissor Sisters Join Franz Onstage at V Festival

The Scissor Sisters closed the Sunday at the V Festival in Chelmsford last night (August 21) with a memorable set that included a host of new songs and a special duet with Franz Ferdinand.
Scissor Sisters took the stage to play the headlining slot at the Chelmsford leg of the V Festival last night, with a huge neon lit version of their billion selling album cover as their backdrop.
Opening with ‘Laura’, Jake Shears (resplendent with lush newly grown-out hair and a flamboyant in a tied-at the-front Barry Manilow-type shirt) and Ana Matronic led the band through a rapturously received sixteen song set.
Augmented by three backing singers, which seriously beefed-up their sound, the band played the three new songs (all previously debuted at the secret gig they played at London’s Bush Hall last week) ‘Paul McCartney’, ‘Everybody Wants’ and one of the set highlights ‘Hair Baby’.
As for what the new songs sound like, according to Xfm’s reporter, “They've played down the Elton John-isms and have gone for much phatter, funkier sound which bodes well for the next album.”
Alongside an appropriately Pink Floyd-eque light show during 'Comfortably Numb' and Ana Matronic dedicating ‘Tits On The Radio’ to Essex girls and praising their style on account of the fact that her seamstress was from there, the other big highlight of the show was the encore of David Bowie’s glam classic 'Suffragette City'.
For this the Sisters were joined onstage by Franz Ferdinand, with frontman Alex Kaprano and drummer Paul Thompson, helping out on vocals with Jake and Ana, while Nick McCarthy took bass duties and Bob Hardy joined Del Marquis on guitars while a collection of giant Muppet–styled Jim Henson Creature Workshop creations danced behind them.
Needless to say, the crowd went ape.
