Ryan Adams To Play Glasto Peel Stage?

added 14 April 2005 at 11.53

A year on since the double album ‘Love Is Hell’ and it’s nemesis LP ‘Rock n’ Roll’, Ryan Adams is back on the comeback trail with three new albums and a possible Glastonbury performance.

No one ever said that Ryan ‘Quality Control’ Adams was short of ideas, so this year the man intends to release three albums, kicking off with an easily-digestible 18-track double LP. Quite a feat for a man who’s spent recent time with one hand in traction…

Entitled ‘Cold Roses’, the first offering will hit UK stores on May 2 and will feature his new backing band The Cardinals namely JP Bowersock (cohort of The Strokes), guitarist Cindy Cashdollar (Bob Dylan session musician, among others), bass player Catherine Popper (of Hem) and Brad Pemberton (longtime Adams collaborator) on drums.

Following it’s release, Adams is rumoured to be joining the recently announced Glastonbury 2005 line-up following an interview in the Guardian with co-organiser Emily Eavis. The article contains the first mention of Adams’ appearance on the John Peel stage and reads as follows:

“…Emily [Eavis] is the co-programmer of the John Peel stage, the festival's venue for new talent. She is excited about a line-up that ranges from the alternative country star Ryan Adams and the Nebraska singer-songwriter Conor Oberst (a.k.a. Bright Eyes) to less familiar names such as The Tears, Go!Team

"I think it is an exceptional time for new music," said Ms Eavis, "There has been a brilliant run of stuff from Britain and overseas."

Later in the year, a second Adams release, rumoured to be titled either ‘Jacksonville’ in tribute to his hometown or simply 'September', will get a release, while the third release will simply be called ‘29’, and will reunite Adams with former collaborator Ethan Johns [Kings Of Leon producer]. Release dates for the two solo albums have yet to be announced.
