Pixies Unveil UK Tour Dates

added 21 July 2005 at 15.52

Pixies have announced three surprise post-Reading UK gigs as part of their forthcoming August European tour including a date at the Alexandra Palace in London.

Hot on the heels of news of the band's plans to return to the studio to record their first album since 1991's 'Trompe La Mond', Pixies have announced three large-scale UK gigs following on from their shows headlining the Reading and Leeds Carling Weekender Festivals on the August Bank Holiday weekend.

Alongside their already annouced European tour dates, the band will play Edinburgh's Meadowbank Stadium, the Manchester Apollo, London's Alexandra Palace and Lansdowne Road Stadium in Dublin.

Pixies have also recently announced that they’ll be returning to the studio for the first time since the brief sessions that resulted in 2004’s download-only single ‘Bam Thwok’.

During press interviews for his imminent solo record ‘Honeycomb’, frontman Frank Black confirmed to contactmusic that, while the band have experienced personal tensions in the past, "it's all hugs and kisses" after last year's initial reunion tour,

"We have been discussing a new album lately,” he explained. “As happy as we are with the success of the reunion tour, we really want to make a record for the right reasons, whether it is successful commercially or not."

Of the new material he says, "We would be satisfied if it played like our other records. Never chart-topping but always in print".

Pixies full European shows are:

  • Paredes De Coura Festival (August 17)
  • Hasselt Pukkelpop (19)
  • Biddinghuizen Lowlands Festival (20)
  • Erfurt Highfield Stadium (21)
  • Dublin Lansdowne Road Stadium (23)

  • The Carling Weekender: Leeds Festival (27)
