Live 8 Round-Up: DVD, Gallagher, James Brown

In a Live 8 news round-up, Xfm Online has news about the official DVD, James Brown playing the Scottish event and Liam Gallagher just, well, mouthing off...
Major label EMI have confirmed they have secured the DVD for this weekend’s Live 8 extravaganza. The entertainment giant have worked out a deal with the organisers which will see them release a DVD of the event in all territories around the world.
However, the DVD will differ from country to country, tailored to include footage from each of the various Live 8 events. It will be hitting shops in November and the Live Aid organisation will receive what EMI describe as a "major financial contribution" from the DVD deal.
Bob Geldof explained, "I hope this will be the biggest-selling DVD of all time. It deserves to be. More importantly perhaps, it should be, for it will help us achieve our goal of changing the lives of the extreme poor for the better and making our generation the one that helped end the disgrace of poverty.
“We are very grateful to EMI for their financial contribution which helped to make the July 2 concerts happen everywhere on the planet and thus nudge the world a little closer towards our shared aim."
In other news, The Godfather Of Soul, James Brown, has confirmed he’ll be bringing his funk roadshow to Edinburgh's Live 8 concert on July 6 at the city's Murrayfield stadium. The soul legend explained, "I know that people need help and I want to be a part of it in any way I can. The concert will raise awareness of the problems in Africa and will make people think about humanity."
Brown also commented on the media criticism of the organisers over the race of the performers on the day saying, "I'm not going to perform as a black artist, I'm going to perform as a man who makes music. You don't segregate. I've fought against that years ago. I don't care if children are black, white, red or yellow, I care that they are hungry."
And in a slightly less charitable move, headline-generator Liam Gallagher told Canadian magazine Chart that he's sorry Oasis won’t be playing Live 8 as it’s a missed opportunity to humiliate Robbie Williams. Which may not be quite the point of the event…
"Y'know why I'd love to do that gig?” Gallagher explained. “First of all, it's f***ing awareness and all that stuff. I'd just love to go on and do four fucking songs and really fucking rip it up.
“Come in and f***ing bang it with fucking four of your classics. And walk off. And
f***ing flick Robbie Williams in the eye and say, ‘Follow that, you dick!’”
