Kaiser Chiefs Vs Kasabian For World Cup Anthem

According to reports, The Kaiser Chiefs and Kasabian are going head-to-head in a battle to record the official England World Cup anthem for the tournament when it takes place in June 2006. Plus ‘secret’ Kasabian gig news.
This morning (August 12) the tabloid newspapers are claiming that the two bands have both decided to follow in the footsteps of The Lightning Seeds, David Baddiel and Frank Skinner by penning a football anthem for the World Cup.
The Kaisers (famously named after former Leeds FC captain’s Lucas Radebe’s first team in South Africa) are currently recording the track in Leeds, and according to a source it’s a “beer fuelled sing-a-long classic”.
“Ricky and the boys are massive Leeds and England fans,” the ‘source’ continued. “And felt it would be a good laugh to get behind Sven and the boys next summer.”
Going against them are Kasabian, who have joined forces with Soccer AM presenter (and former Xfm jock) Tim Lovejoy, who is masterminding their own, as yet untitled song. It also appears that the National Football Association has added their stamp of approval to the Kasabian track.
In other Kasabian news, the band will play a Carling Weekender Festival warm up show at The Astoria in London on August 25.
Tickets for the show are available now, priced £16.00, from the Xfm Xchange on 0871 222 1049 or from the Xfm Online Ticket Shop by clicking here.
