Iggy Pop's Got A Huge Package

added 13 May 2005 at 15.20

Iggy Pop will be releasing a career-spanning 2-CD Best Of Anthology while David Bowie, Henry Rollins and Lou Reed line up to pay tribute to the Godfather Of Punk.

The new two disc album will be entitled ‘A Million In Prizes’ and includes the best of Pop’s work from his emergence as the singer with legendary proto punks, through his classic ‘Lust For Life’ album, onto the acclaimed ‘Brick By Brick’ and including his collaborations with The B52's Kate Pierson and Blondie’s Debbie Harry.

The album will also be made available in a special edition which will include a concert DVD taken from one of Pop’s 1999 show entitled ‘Live At The Avenue B’.

And befitting such an impressive career retrospective, two of Iggy’s most famous friends have made not unsurprisingly complimentary comments about Mr Pop.

"I love Iggy! I love Iggy! I love Iggy! I love everything about Iggy,” enthused Lou Reed, “He created the look, the ambience, the confrontational oeuvre. Iggy has the best body in Rock & Roll."

"As The Stones had Chuck Berry, so the loosely defined Punk movement looked to Jim [Osterberg – Pop’s real name]” opined David Bowie, “He has spawned as many testosterone driven outfits as anyone on this planet.  And he still knocks 90% of them into a cocked hat."

"Some singers in bands can do about one tour where they wreck it like Iggy Pop and then they have to pull back from either sheer pain or good sense,” added Henry Rollins, “Iggy never pulls back.  He is, quite simply, the best.  This is fact, not opinion."

Iggy & The Stooges will be playing the Carling Weekender Festival at Leeds and Reading in August and ‘A Million In Prizes’ will be released on July 18 on Virgin Records. The full running order is:
