Green Day Grab Seven At MTV Video Music Awards

The spirit of (pop) punk is clearly alive and well in the good ol' U.S. of A. as Green Day dominated last weekend's MTV Video Awards. The Killers, Gorillaz and Kelly Clarkson also triumphed in the categories of Suit-wearing, Cartoon-funk and Extreme Sh*tness, respectively.
Picking up seven of the eight awards they were nominated for, the all-American boys of punk rock painted the night green. It seems their video for 'Boulevard of Broken Dreams’ is as near perfection as a music video can be winning the Best Rock Video, Video of the Year, Best Group Video, Best Direction, Best Editing and Best Cinematography categories. Crikey.
The Killers took home the coveted Best New Artist In A Video award, beating off the likes of My Chemical Romance, John Legend and Ciara with a large musical stick
The ceremony, whch this year had a water theme, was held in Miami and according to certain reports featured an umprecedented degree of gaudy costumes, pissed-up celebrities and Mariah Carey.
Witty introductions came courtesy of the recently-renamed Diddy ("People just, like, didn't know what to call me, man...") and live performances from Kelly Clarkson, The Killers and Mariah Carey. Coldplay also performed 'Speed Of Sound' which despite being nominated for four awards, won nothing.
Gorillaz flew the British flag, albeit a cyber one, winning Best Breakthrough Video and Best Special Effects In A Video for 'Feel Good Inc.'
