Foo Fighters Album Details Revealed

With a release date pencilled in, Foo Fighters mainman Dave Grohl has confirmed that among the ‘special guests’ to appear on the band’s new record will be former-Led Zeppelin bass player John Paul Jones and Norah Bloody Jones.

Speaking at the recent Grammy Awards, Foo Fighters fontman Grohl confirmed to Canada’s Edmonton Sun that the band’s new album (currently slated for a June 6 UK release) will feature ex-Led Zep bass player Jones saying,

"We have a few guests that are playing on the record. I put (Jones) on our wish list of guests and he actually responded and said that he would do it. And so I talked to him on the phone. Great guy. Nicest guy in the world.

“And then I got an e-mail the next day saying, 'Hey, if you'd like you can sit with us at our [Grammys] table for the lifetime achievement awards.' It was unbelievable. It was pretty surreal.”

Guitarist Chris Shiflett commented earlier in the month, “Yesterday was one of the coolest days I've ever had in the studio. None other than John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin fame came by to play some Mellotron, piano and mandolin on a few different tracks.

“That guy is like royalty but he was so down to earth and cool it was incredible. Of course, we managed to sneak in a few Zeppelin trivia questions and he even riffed ‘Kashmir’ on the Mellotron for a minute. We are pretty f***ing blessed...”

Another guest making an appearance on the album is boring, boring, boring multi-platinum faux-jazz warbler Norah Jones. While this may seem a strange choice for a collaboration, Jones has been confirmed to be making an appearance on the acoustic disc of the Foos double album.

Shiflett explained, “We had yet another special guest in the studio yesterday. None other than Nora [sic] Jones! The song is on the mellow disc and it's got a really cool Elvis Costello vibe to it. Her voice is beautiful and fits the song really nice.

“I think Beebe fell in love with her too. He loves her so much that he shreds jazzy malmsteen licks all over the solo.”

While no title has currently been decided, the record is said to be almost finished with the band “very happy” with the results. The album will be released in time for the band’s UK summer festival headline appearances at T In The Park, Oxegen and the Carling Weekender.

The band will play the following UK dates later this year:

  • T In The Park (July 9)
  • Oxegen, Ireland (10)
  • The Carling Weekender: Reading & Leeds (August 26-28
