Eels Announce Special 'With Strings’ UK Shows
Eels make a return to UK shores with a unique ‘Eels With Strings’ tour across the country in May, and Xfm has details of a new album and single from the band in the upcoming months.
Eels have annouced a full headlining UK and Ireland tour, begining in Dublin on May 18 and finishing up at a show at London’s prestigious Royal Festival Hall on May 23, with extra expected to be announced soon.
But rather than this being just a standard tour, there’s a unique twist to proceedings – it’s going to be an acoustic-based, non rock tour, hence the special name tag ‘Eels With Strings’.
In a statement, Eels frontman Mark Oliver Everett (a.k.a. E) speaks up about the forthcoming jaunt saying,
"The past few Eels tours had taken a physical and emotional toll on me.’ He explained. ‘I decided it was time to stop. But then one night I was in the backyard smoking a cigar with Bobby, Jr. and I was thinking about how we've been pummeling the audiences with variations on a distorted, rocking theme for the past few tours and wouldn't it be nice to do something really different?
“I found myself getting creatively excited about the idea. I couldn't stop myself from calling the office and having my team of experts assist me in making this idea a reality. So here we come again. If you're looking for rock - turn back. You've come to the wrong place. This is a whole other thing."
Aslo a new Eels album entitled 'Blinking Lights And Other Revelations' is to be released on April 25, followed closely by the new single, 'Hey Man' on May 16, both to be released on Polydor Records.
Tickets for these dates cost £15 (except London £20) with more dates still to be announced. They will be going on-sale either from the Xfm Xchange on 0871 222 1049 or online from the Xfm Online Ticket Shop by clicking here.
