Dizzee Rascal 'Boy In Da Corner'

Contrary to the style press's depiction, East London isn't the sole preserve of trustafarian trendies, as cockney reject Dizzee Rascal will testify.
Expelled from several schools in his native Bow for crimes that he is reluctant to itemise, the 18-year-old highly-touted 2Step dissident is the heavy-lidded face of the other East End, the one that taxi drivers shy away from after dark.
As you might expect then, his staggering debut album is the sound of The Streets' belligerent younger sibling, all punch-drunk basslines, discordant bleeps and Dizzee's screw-faced raps. "Looks like I 'm losing hope cos I climb this mountain without a rope," he spits on 'Brand New Day', a fusion of the Far East and Dizzee's English slanguage which suggests that beneath the bluster lies an introspective sage. Whatever, Dizzee Rascal is a bona fide outsider and 'Boy In Da Corner', futuristic and abrasive, is Tony Blair's felicitous, ear-splitting wake-up call.
