Cocteau Twins Reunion Cancelled

added 16 March 2005 at 11.11

Xfm can confirm that the massive anticipated Cocteau Twins reunion that was confirmed to take place at the Coachella Festival in the US in April, has now been called off with the band once again splitting for the foreseeable future.

Legions of the bands fans were ecstatic at the news in January that the band’s classic line up of vocalist Elizabeth Fraser, Robin Guthrie and Simon Raymonde would be reforming for an appearance at the Coachella Music Festival in California on April 30.

The band split amongst much rumoured animosity in 1998 (Guthrie and Fraser had been a relationship together in the past), but the reunion was confirmed and would see the band playing on a bill that included Coldplay, The Chemical Brothers, Weezer, Snow Patrol, Doves, The Prodigy and British Sea Power.

It was made clear that the event would be a one off with the band stating they had agreed to play only one live performance, with no plans for a live tour or album following this reunion show. However a new statement has just announced that the reunion is off. It reads:

“It is with regret that Cocteau Twins announce they will not be performing at the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival on April 30 as had been planned.

“Due to personal reasons, member Elizabeth Fraser has decided that she is unable to participate in the reunion, and apologies for any inconvenience this has caused.

“No future plans for any reunion are currently being made.

“Our sincere thanks and apologies to all the fans and media who wrote to us expressing your enthusiasm and support.”

Cocteau Twins were founded in Scotland in 1980 and signed to 4AD, finding massive critical acclaim and a devoted fan base obsessed with their atmospheric, textured music and Fraser’s distinctive, ethereal and near operatic vocals
