Carl Barat Joins Graham Coxon Onstage

added 18 July 2005 at 12.54

Ex-Libertines singer Carl Barat joined Graham Coxon live onstage at the KOKO club in Camden on Saturday night (July 16) for his first live appearance since leaving his former band.

Barat arrived as Coxon’s special guest at the London club, joining the ex-Blur guitarist for a rendition of Sham 69's punk classic 'Borstal Breakout'

Coxon reportedly invited Barat (a friend since the early days of The Libertines) onstage to join him for the track, just before he went on, leaving Barat with just over half an hour to learn the entire song.

The sold out capacity crowd went wild when Barat walked onstage and plugged in his trademark Les Paul Junior guitar for what would be his first live performance since the demise of The Libertines

For some idea what the gig looked like, Simon Webbon caught the performance on camera and has posted some shots of the duo onstage on the iglooart website. To check them out click here.

A special headline guest of the Dirty Pretty Things-curated ‘A Bit Of What You Fancy’ mini-festival at the club, Coxon played a set that included his recent singles ‘Spectacular’, ‘Bittersweet Bundle Of Misery’ and ‘Freakin’ Out’.

Also featured on the night were Metro Riots, Kill City and Pearl Lowe, and DJ’s for the night were SupergrassDanny Goffey, Queens of Noize and Tap ‘N’ Tin Sailors.
