Breakfast Anthems

added 01 February 2005 at 10.40

You could win a trip for you and five mates to Los Angeles, staying in a super swanky hotel - Just by writing a new anthem for the Christian O'Connell Breakfast Show. Think you're up to the job?

Right then, we know you're a talented bunch, so we're gonna put you to the test and offer you the chance to win an amazing, nay astonishing, nay arse-clenchingly incredible prize.

We're offering you and five mates the chance to fly to Los Angeles with our wonderful friends at
British Airways, to stay for seven full days at the famed
and luxurious Beverly Hills Hilton Hotel. Impressive eh?

Now, to win this great prize we need you to send us a Breakfast Show Anthem that we can play out on air. It's got to be catchy, memorable and capture the very essence of The Christian O'Connell Breakfast Show.

The rules in full are set out in the entry form - which you MUST fill in and return [click here] - but for quick reference here's a quick round up of the key details:

The rules are:

  • Your song shouldn't really be any longer than 90 seconds. S'gotta be snappy innit.

  • You can chose any style or genre of music. Pop, metal, hip hop, thrash, folk or metal. It's up to you. But your entry must be an original composition. Your own original masterpiece. Here's an example of one original effort [listen]. *

  • You can send you anthems on CD to Song For Breakfast, Xfm, 30 Leicester Square. London WC2H 7LA or via e-mail (as MP3s or Windows Media Audio files) to breakfast@xfm.co.uk. If possible you should encode your track in Windows Media Format twice, once at a bit rate of 32 kilobits per second (for online) and once at a higher rate.

  • IMPORTANT: We can only consider entries (via e-mail or post) it if you have also returned your signed Participant’s Release Form. Which you can download by clicking here. Get the form, read it carefully then please sign and return it with your entry. No form means no entry.

  • When you send in your entry, please include your contact details and a short profile about yourself (names, influences, maybe even a photo if you've got one) so we can find out a bit more about you.

  • Start sending in your entries RIGHT NOW but all entries MUST be received before February 25. You haven't got long, so get creative.

  • We'll then put all the best entries up online for you to hear (right here) then Christian and the Xfm Breakfast Show Team will pick and name their Top 5 from all the anthems on Monday 28 February.

  • Those five finalists will then be put to a public text vote on Thursday March 3 between 6.00am and 10.00am to find the winner, who will be announced during the Breakfast Show on Friday March 4.
