Apartment 'X-posure Live' [Dial-Up] [Broadband]
Head of this year's 'Most Likely To...' class, Apartment have the honour of counting Jeff Buckley's mum amongst their fans and seem certain to follow in the footsteps of the similarly well turned-out Franz Ferdinand and bring angular guitar pop to the masses.
Kicking off like a junior Interpol with the imperious stylings of 'Paid In Full', Apartment barely pause for breath as the power on through the double whammy of past and present singles 'Everyone Says I'm Paranoid' and 'Patience Is Proving', this last coming over like a Duran Duran tempted even further to the dark side, with David Carriagi's vocals perching precariously between a yelp and a drawl. Put your money on never having to set foot somewhere this small ever again.
Editors 'X-posure Live'
[Dial-Up]
[Broadband]
Cut from a similarly cloth to the headliners, Editors take a darker, more epic approach to their archly arty pop sensibilities, a fact which helps explain why the Duke of Dour Elbow's Guy Garvey is among their fans to the extent that he's taken on knob-twiddling duties on several recent b-sides.
'Bullets', built around distant, chiming guitars, gives an early indication of the kind of scale they're working to, while current single 'Blood' melds 'Taxi Driver'-sentiment to grandiose melodies with breathtaking results. Check out the 'Munich' single - the track that first broke Editors above ground.
New Rhodes 'X-posure Live'
[Dial-Up]
[Broadband]
Four unassuming lads from Bristol with a penchant for sparking guitars and songs about heartbreak - check out the likes of 'She Said No' and 'I Wish I Was You' - New Rhodes are new stars in the art-rock firmament that promise to shine with the brightest.
