Zero 7 'When It Falls'

added 26 February 2004 at 10.06

On the beautifully crafted follow up to 2001’s hugely popular ‘Simple Things’ British duo Zero 7 meld aspects of funk, jazz, soul and lounge. Hear Zero 7's compelling new collection of songs here.

North London lads Henry Binns and Sam Hardaker have created what all Zero 7 fan’s have been looking forward to all along, continuing to combine laid-back West Coast folk with elusive orchestration as well as reinstating a number of guest vocalists from their debut, creating a relaxed summery vibe.

Opening with the aptly titled ‘Warm Sound’, featuring Mozez's spiritual vocal on top of a wavering flute, before he reappears on ‘Over Our Heads’. New recruit, Danish vocalist Tina Dico provides delicate vocals on the calmly chiming guitars of ‘Home’ and the avant-garde techno of ‘The Space Between’, bringing '70s folk-jazz up to date. Sia Furler guests on ‘Somersault’ and ‘Speed Dial No 2’ while Sophie Barker features on ‘Passing By’ and ‘In Time’, both beautifully simple. Throughout we're presented with a flurry of effects and instruments including psychedelic elements, creating a peacefully serene sphere with imagery of blue skies and glowing sunsets. If you liked the mellow and chilled ‘Simple Things’ then you’ll definitely go for this.
