X-clusive: The Darkness And Ash Supergroup
Xfm can reveal that plans are underway to create a supergroup featuring Justin Hawkins from The Darkness, Tim Wheeler from Ash and disco funk sex pest Har Mar Superstar.
Speaking exclusively to Xfm, Ash bassist Mark Hamilton explained that the new outfit is set to be called White Slave and – while lacking a full complement of players – Ash frontman Tim Wheeler is already enthusiastic about the idea.
“Tim’s been talking with Justin and Har Mar about putting together this new band called White Slave,” Hamilton explained, “Har Mar’s gonna sing and Tim and Justin are gonna be duelling guitarists. They’re still trying to find a drummer at the minute, as well as a bass player. Would I do it? Nah, it all sounds a bit Spinal Tap for me.
While Hawkins himself is being understandably secretive about the project, at a recent press conference he did confirm the band’s working title of White Slave, but went on to state,
“I would prefer not to speak of that matter at this exact time. I’d like to concentrate on my side project The Darkness.”
In other side project news, Hamilton went on to explain that him and Ash drummer Rick McMurray are following Ash guitarist Charlotte Hatherly’s recent example and their forming their own band.
“Rick and me are planning on putting together a Satanic metal band called The Goat Of Mendez,” Hamilton confessed, “Basically it’s all really, really full on Death Metal… with just goat vocals.”
The Darkness will be undertaking an arena tour (with Ash supporting) in November and December.
