X-clusive: Starsailor Release Heaviest Single

In-between beating Snow Patrol in fundraising football matches (Final Score: 3-1) and being generally charitable blokes, Starsailor have been speaking exclusively to Xfm about their upcoming 'heaviest ever' single.

Xfm caught up with Starsailor at this weekend's Soccer Sixes charity football showdown to hear about their new music direction and standalone new single.

"We've recorded a new song to coincide with the festivals," bassist James Stelfox explained, "The title's not confirmed yet, but it'll probably be called 'In My Blood'. Its quite heavy and definitely the heaviest thing we ever done - its quite a departure from our usual stuff."

"We're still sorting out a release date for the single," he continued. "The record company want to rush in, but we want to give it to radio for a few weeks beforehand or maybe just do release as a download."

"It won't be on an album, it'll just be a limited release for one week over the festival period to keep us ticking over.

Stelfox went on to comment on how the band's new album is coming along and gave a possible date for fans to hear new material.

"We start work on the new album in September, but we're constantly writing songs," he explained. "We always write on the road and in rehearsals. We've got about eight or nine at the moment, but they're just called song A, Song B and 'The-One-In-A-Major'. We should have a new album out by January - fingers crossed."

Speaking of the festival season, Stelfox confirmed that his band will be playing the main stage at Glastonbury 2004 as well as a whole heap of other outdoor appearances.

"We're going to be third down the bill at Glastonbury, before Paul McCartney [on Saturday June 26] who's a hero of mine, so that'll be great. And the Black Eyed Peas will be on after us, which will be interesting... A bit of a weird one that."

"We'll also be doing V2004, T In The Park, Oxegen and about 15 other festivals in Europe so we'll be really busy" he continued. "We'd like to get into the studio over the summer, but it won't happen now until after this trip I don't think."

Starsailor's second album 'Silence Is Easy' is out now and keep checking Xfm Online for all the news of the band's next single.
