X-clusive: Muse On Injuries And Glastonbury

Following Muse frontman Matt Bellamy’s severe onstage injuries earlier this month, the band have been talking about gushing blood, stitching lips and headlining the final night of The Glastonbury Festival later this year.
Bellamy was hospitalised after smashing his guitar into his own face during a concert in Atlanta on the US leg of their ‘Absolution’ world tour (April 9), Muse drummer Dominic Howard has been speaking to Xfm Online about the “disgusting” incident.
"We were five songs into the set and I looked up and saw Matt with all this blood gushing out of his face,” Howard explained, “He turned to me and mouthed the words ‘Stop the song, I’ve f**ked my face’, so we stopped and we knew there was something seriously wrong as there was a lot of blood p**sing out of his face, It was quite disgusting actually.”
“So we went offstage, got backstage and checked it out and it was real bad. We thought it had gone all the way through to his teeth as he was hit right on the edge of the headstock of the guitar which was really sharp. He was backstage, blood everywhere, puking up. Disgusting. We knew he had to go to hospital straight away.
"He’s got a little scar, but it looks pretty clean. Apparently, sewing up the lip is always pretty hard to do, in fact they had to do it twice. The nurse did it, then said ‘Oh, I think I’ve done it wrong,’ and had to do it again."
Muse will be headlining the main stage on the final night of this year’s Glastonbury Festival, not that Dom is nervous (yet).
“We’re not shitting it right now, but we’ll probably be shitting it on the day, or even a few days before,” He confessed, “It’s gonna be f**king amazing. We haven’t played there for a few years and it’s a festival that feels pretty close to us too. It’s gonna be incredible and we’re really glad to be doing it.”
As for what punters can expect from Muse’s performance, Dom is remarkably straight forward.
“The best show of the weekend,” he laughed, “We’re playing the final night so we’re closing the whole thing. So hopefully it’ll just be a big fat rock show. That’s the plan.”
Muse’s new single ‘Sing For Absolution’ is out May 17.
