X-clusive: Jet On New Album

Melbourne’s most hard rocking sons, Jet have been speaking exclusively to Xfm Online about writing the follow up to their debut album ‘Get Born’ and how masturbating in front of someone can make you feel "a little uncomfortable."
Speaking before their appearenmce at Carling New Kings Of Rock And Roll gig at the Islington Academy, guitarist Cameron Muncey and bassist Mark Wilson bassist have explained that while it hasn’t even been a year since the release of their first record, they’ve already started work on their new album.
However, the band have been on tour non-stop since May (”I’m knackered,” says Wilson, “I feel like I started drinking in May and I can’t wake up”) and writing while on tour can be problematic,
“We’re getting better at it,” explained Muncey, “It's difficult cos you’re there on the bus with an acoustic guitar trying to write something in front of your other band mates. Sometimes it's like trying to masturbate in front of someone, in the fact that you kinda feel a little exposed. You feel a little uncomfortable, on edge.
“You’re sitting there, making mistakes, f**ing up in front of everyone, so that was hard, but we’re getting better at it. We’ve got a few tracks together that we’re jamming on in soundcheck."
As for Jet’s trademark re-interpretation of classic 70’s rock, it appears the new record will see the group expanding their sonic template somewhat.
“We’ve got more slow songs than are on the first album,” continued Wilson, “I think we’re gonna try do something completely different. Half of the album’s written, or half written but we haven’t really got a clue how they’ll turn out.”
“There’s been talk of making an album of mostly ballads, but I couldn’t tour the world without a couple of rock songs under my belt. The first album came together just by getting the best tones and sounds we could get, so it begins there but I’m sure we’ll really f**k around with things a little more this time.”
