X-clusive: Ian Brown Meets Noel Gallagher

Ian Brown has been talking exclusively to Xfm about recording his new single ‘Keep What You’ve Got’ with Oasis’ Noel Gallagher, future collaborations and his upcoming headlining UK tour.

During Ian Brown’s visit to the Music: Response show, the legendary frontman talked exclusively to Xfm about how his new single - a collaboration with him and Oasis helmsman Noel Gallagher - came about.

“He gave me the music, basically gave me a rough demo,” Brown explained, “A version of the music saying ‘Here’s a song that I’ve got that every time I sing it, it sounds like you’. So I’m like ‘You better give it me then’. So then I spent two, three days trying to make it not sound like Oasis – cos its got those drop chords n’all – after two or three days I kinda found a place where it was a combination of the two.

“I got him in, put my lyrics in, put my melodies in, he wasn’t too happy with his guitars so he recorded them all again and there we have it.”

Brown is planning a full UK headline tour later this year, but it appears the former Stone Roses singer will have trouble getting his live set down to a reasonable length.

“I’m looking at it at the moment like a review y’know?” he explained, “R.E.V.I. E.W. I got bags of songs now from years, so I’m just gonna play all my best works. At the moment it’s more what I’m not gonna play. Right now I’ve got a Bruce Springsteen length set, so it’s gonna be mega, and I’m all set. I’ve got ten, eleven musicians on stage with me, it’s gonna be proper. A proper night out.”

As for further collaboration, Brown has one outfit in mind already, saying, “I’d like to work with Scratch Perverts I think they’re super talented. I’ve done a few gigs with them and they’re friends, I’d love to work with them."

Ian Brown’s new album 'Solarized’ and single ‘Keep What Ya Got’ (featuring Noel Gallagher) are both out now on Fiction Records.

His full tour dates are:

  • Glasgow Academy (October 14 & 15)
  • Manchester Apollo (18 & 19)
  • London Brixton Academy (21 & 22)
