X-clusive: Duran Duran On Brits And New Album

added 17 February 2004 at 17.22

Alongside news that Duran Duran have added yet more dates to their upcoming UK tour, the 80’s rock legends speak about regrouping for their massively successful tour, their new album and being honoured at the Brits.

The band have added three more dates to their UK tour including an extra date at Wembley Arena, and shows at the Odyssey Arena, Belfast and the Point Theatre, Dublin.

Now Keyboardist Nick Rhodes and drummer Roger Taylor explained how happy they are to be received so well during their first original line up tour in 18 years.

“We’ve been on tour since July, we didn’t really know what to expect, but it’s just snowballed. The live dates have been going amazingly well” Explained Rhodes, “The thing is, as soon as we got back playing in a room together, it was like nothing had ever happened, like being in a time warp.”

It also seems the tour had got the band’s creative juices flowing,

“We wrote a lot of new material together,” continued Taylor, “That’s the first thing we did. And so far so good. We’ll finish recording a new album by May or June and we’re looking forward to releasing it in September or October.”

Duran Duran were also honoured at the Brit Awards last night (February 17) where they received a prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award.

“We’re really thrilled,” said Rhodes, “It’s always nice to win things, but especially when it’s in Britain. We’re in pretty good company I think. U2 have won one and Sting won one. We’re very pleased about it.”

Tickets for the extra Wembley Arena gig go on sale on February 18, while Belfast and Dublin will be available on February 21 and February 26 respectively.
