X-clusive: Delays “We’ve Got 30 Songs Written”

Currently in the process of simultaneously writing the follow-up to their 2003 debut ‘Faded Seaside Glamour’, Delays release a stopgap single ‘Lost In A Melody’ next month. Aaron explains why it doesn’t really have a typical Delays sound, because they haven’t decided what that is yet.

“We’ve never decided what kind of band we’re going to be to be honest,” he explains, “Which is cool because we can never limit ourselves. ‘Lost In A Melody’ is a disco-driven, euphoric song and I just love it.

“We’ve written about thirty new songs for the next album that we’re hopefully going to record in December, but we’re still touring all the time. It will happen though. We’re always writing when we’re on tour and so all the new songs are about life on the road, eating crap and talking to other boys,” he jokes.

With work on the new album underway, you’d think that the band would be focussing on the near future. However, Aaron explains the band still have colossal aims for the future. World Domination, in fact.

“We’re all very happy with life at the moment, but we always want more,” he admits. “We’ve got some serious ambitions, but I don’t think we’ll ever completely achieve what we want to achieve. We want to be the biggest band in the world and not some obscure indie band. We just want as many people in the world to hear our music as possible.”
