Even by the standards of their label and drinking mates The Coral, The Zutons are pretty damn genre defying. Horns, scuzzy guitar and blues harmonies are all mixed up in a shiny cauldron of near-insanity. From the falsetto/scream dichotomies of 'Pressure Point' to the lairy, galloping rhythms of 'Havana Gang Brawl', 'Who Killed The Zutons' is sufficiently off the wall to soundtrack a Scooby Doo movie.

And one of the good, animated ones too. Not the criminal, Sarah Michelle-Geller remake.

But elsewhere there's a heart beating strongly under the madness - 'Confusion' is simply beautiful, even in the crowded field of pop's falling-out-of-love songs its weary, melodic mournfulness is up there with the greatest tracks ever composed on tear-stained Basildon Bond.

'Remember Me' tells the story of best friends seprated by love, 'Dirty Dancehall' takes a surreal look at nightclub culture and 'Railroad' - the story of a migrant Chinese worker sending money and promises home to his lover - takes on a special resonance after the Morecombe tragedy. In fact, The Zutons are as eclectic with their subject matter as they are their musical style. Abi Harding's sax, Dave McCabe's vocals and the guitars of Boyan Chowdhury weave seamlessly over the rhythms of Sean Payne and Russell Pritchard in a bewildering variety of styles.

Like nothing you've heard before. Check it out.
