The Darkness Recruit Heavyweight Producer

Lowestoft rockers The Darkness have brought out the big guns and hired the services of legendary rock producer Robert 'Mutt' Lange for the follow up to their continent-destroying debut, 'Permission To Land'. (Plus news that Avril Lavigne wants to record a duet with the band.)
The BBC reports that Justin, Frankie, Dan and Ed have signed up the hair rock producer of choice Mutt Lange to man the desk for their forthcoming album. Reading like a history of stadium rock, Lange's CV includes production credits for AC/DC's 'Highway To Hell' and 'For Those About To Rock We Salute You' before going on to produce huge hits for Brian Adams, Def Leppard and Foreigner.
More recently, he's also worked with everyone from Britney Spears to the Backstreet Boys.
Following a successful stint touring America, as previously reported the Lowestoft foursome take-on an even greater challenge in the coming weeks: The band have signed up to battle the forces of evil in this years charity six-a-side football competition against teams from Liberty X and Phixx.
According to the band's website, Team Darkness includes such luminaries as Ralf Little, Harvey So Solid and Viz-creator Simon Donald as well as Frankie, Justin and Dan from the band. However, the addition of former Republic of Ireland International John "Aldo" Aldridge to the squad seems somewhat cheating. The former Liverpool player is British football's record goalscorer with 474 goals in 882 appearances. It would be foolish to bet against them.
In other Darkness-related news, Avril Lavigne has cited the band as her rock heroes and she's desperate to work with them. Lavigne plans to collaborate with the band in the studio claiming they are the only band worthy of her time.
"The Darkness are incredible," the Canadian skater-girl explained. "Their power is breathtaking and they are the one band in the world I now want to record with. I just can't stop singing their songs."
