Outkast Return In 2005 With Films And Albums

added 14 December 2004 at 15.45

After laying low in 2004, cosmic hip-hop duo Outkast will return next year with their long-awaited film and not one, but two new studio records.

The group will be releasing a straight-to-TV film made for American network HBO co-starring Ving Rhames, Paula Jai Parker and Terrence Howard entitled ‘My Life in Idlewild’. The film is set in the US Prohibition-era South and features Big Boi (the hardcore hip-hop half) and his piano playing pal Andre 3000 (the flamboyant mad-as-a-fish-in-braces half) as they are forced to protect their illegal speak-easy from gangsters.

The film was co-written and directed by Bryan Barber, the man responsible for the band’s ‘Hey Ya!’ and ‘Roses’ promo clips and cost a reported $15 million to make.

Depending on the final release date of ‘…Idlewild’, the next Outkast LP therefore will either be the film’s soundtrack or the band’s next studio record proper, reported to be called ‘The Hard 10’. However, at least one record from the pair is expected before the middle of 2005.

Unlike their last record, ‘Speakerboxxx/The Love Below’, Big Boi and Andre 3000 collaborated on all of the tracks on both records implying a possible return to the band’s ‘Stankonia’ style.

In other Outkast news, Andre 3000 will also appear in the film ‘Be Cool’, the follow-up to ‘Get Shorty’ starring John Travolta, Uma Thurman, Vince Vaughn, The Rock, Christina Milian, Harvey Keitel, Danny DeVito alongside Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler as himself.
