Orbital Confirm Split And Final Show At Glasto

added 22 April 2004 at 12.39

After 15 years, six albums and a whole truckload of incendiary live appearances, Orbital have announced that their forthcoming album will be their last. Orbital will play Brixton Academy before reprising their legendary 1994 and 2002 appearances with their last ever English live show at Glastonbury.

The band's final album, entitled simply the 'Blue Album', will be released on June 21 just prior to the final shows.

"I think we feel that Orbital has run its course," explains one half of the duo Paul Hartnoll in a statement on the band's website. "We're both pursuing different avenues with our music. And we've been sat, as brothers, in the same room for 15 years now-and studios are always confined spaces-I think it's time for a change."

Along with brother Phil, Orbital will play their penultimate English show at London's Brixton Academy June 25, before heading to Worthy Farm to close the festival headlining the Other Stage on the Sunday (June 27) of the Glastonbury festival.

"It's nice to have our last gig at Glastonbury." Paul explains "It's gonna be a party set, a best of Orbital. We're gonna play all the stuff that's stuck around for all this time because they are the favourite ones. This will definitely be our last ever live show… Although I'm sure Status Quo keep telling themselves the same thing."

While Glastonbury has already sold out, keep checking Xfm Online for ticket details for the duo's Brixton farewell with tickets expected to go on general release at the end of April.
