My Morning Jacket Lose Members

added 22 January 2004 at 10.08

It was announced yesterday (January 21) that Kentucky alt-country stars, My Morning Jacket are set to lose two members from their five-piece line-up. Guitarist Johnny Quaid and keyboard player Danny Cash have announced that they are to leave the band.

Seemingly fed up with life on the road, Cash explained his decision with the following,
"Unfortunately, the lifestyle of a touring musician is not the one for me. I've spent a lot of the past several years missing my family and friends back home. As much as I love the band and the music we make, it's just not worth sacrificing my home life."

The band's line-up was completed by group leader Jim James, bassplayer Two Tone Tommy and drummer Patrick Hallahan. Quaid, who is the cousin of James, has been replaced by guitarist Carl Broemel whilst Bo Koster will take on keyboard duties.

The band posted the following message on its official website (mymorningjacket.com):

"After four years of passion, sweat, travelling the world and spreading the love, Danny Cash and Johnny Quaid have decided to hang up their instruments and pursue other things in life.

"Please know that Danny and John are still part of My Morning Jacket's fabric and friendship and where they will be missed dearly, we couldn't be happier for them to take their lives in a direction they're most comfortable with.

"Our love to Danny and John, our welcome aboard to Carl and Bo and our thanks to you for having open minds and hearts to the future.

Much Love,

Patrick, Jim & Tommy"

The band still plan to play the scheduled UK dates at the Astoria, London (February 5) and Dublin's Temple Bar Music Centre (February 7) with the new line-up making its UK debut on this jaunt. Notably, the US dates following this stint find Jim James playing solo and joining Bright Eyes aka Conor Oberst and M. Ward for a collaborative series of shows, giving the new Jacket line-up chance to properly asses their position.

Each show will feature a half-hour solo performance from each of the artists, followed by an hour collaboration featuring all three.

Tickets for the UK shows are available now from the Xfm Xchange at 0870 121 1049 or from the Xfm Online Live Gig Guide by clicking here
