Lucky For Some: Thirteen Senses

added 03 March 2004 at 17.52

The subject of a bidding war so intense that it actually prompted over 50 London record company execs to venture into the wilds of Cornwall, Thirteen Senses tell Ian Camfield their story and play live on Music: Response.

Disgustingly young (half of them wouldn't even get served in an American bar) Thirteen Senses have come a long way in a short time.

After luring the cream of London's A&R community down to their local boozer for showcase they signed to Mercury and have now moved up to London where they all share a flat ("like The Monkees...")

With their first headlining London show at the legendary 100 Club and an appearance at the career-defining South By Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas fast approaching, the Cornish four-piece don't look to be slowing down anytime soon.

On Music: Response vocalist Will South talked to Ian Camfield about fighting against the Cornish Cover Band mafia, the bidding war and their future plans, before playing an exclusive live session. [listen]

Thirteen Senses 'Through The Glass' [Dial-Up] [Broadband]
The debut single pulses with the surefooted confidence of a far more experienced outfit, keeping pace with mid-period REM whilst mixing in the kind of gentle psychedelia that reminds you just where they come from.

Thirteen Senses 'History' [Dial-Up] [Broadband]
As with, apparently, roughly half of the debut LP, this is a piano-led number. A spiritual lyric in the fine traditions of early U2 builds into a gentle snarebeat, before the guitar riff ascends gracefully.
