Godhopping With The Dogs

Glasweigian five piece Dogs Die In Hot Cars unveiled their twisted art pop creations on Music: Response and explained their unusual moniker. Kind of.

Right now Scotland's doing a roaring trade in well turned out, curiously-named arty guitar bands with a nice line in smart time changes. Hot on the footsteps of Franz Ferdinand comes the similarly eccentric Dogs Die In Hot Cars.

Having made their name with the urgently melodic ska pop of 'I Love You 'Cos I Have To' the five piece were snapped up after a brief bidding war and an unusual showcase gig in the drummer's bedroom, and continued their career with the now-extremely collectable 'Man Bites Man' EP.

Vocalist Colin Macintosh talked to Ian Camfield about new single 'Godhopping', their forthcoming debut album and the non-existant influence of XTC. [listen]

From Ruth Quigley's classic piano to the shuffling guitar lines and Sparks-esque falsetto harmonies, this is a pretty unique proposition - staccato keys mix with smooth, flowing vocal lines in a blend of unselfconscious showmanship.

In a world that already holds The Zutons and The Coral this manic voodoo soundtrack isn't the most out-there thing you'll hear this year but it could still make cannibal headshrinkers sit up and listen. This is the track that got DDIHC their first foot on the ladder.
