Franz Ferdinand Nominated For Three Grammys

The nominations for the Grammy Awards are announced with the UK represented by Franz Ferdinand and Joss Stone, with three nominations each.
The nominations for arguably the biggest and most prestigious music awards event in the world, the 47th Annual Grammy Awards were announced at a ceremony at the Music Box venue
in Hollywood today (December 8).
In terms of the big hitters, Kanye West leads the nominations with ten, Alicia Keys and Usher picked up eight nominations each, followed by the late Ray Charles with seven, and Green Day with six.
However there is a strong field of British acts in contention this year. Franz Ferdinand got three (Best Rock Performance (Duo or Group), Best Alternative Music Album and Best Music Video (Short Form)), Joss Stone got two (Best New Artist and Pop Vocal Album) and U2 got three (Best Rock Song Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal and Best Short Form Music Video)
Elsewhere Basement Jaxx, The Chemical Brothers, Kylie Minogue and Scissor Sisters are all up for the Best Dance Recording award and the Best Long Form Music Video category includes Coldplay for ‘Coldplay Live 2003’ and the George Harrison Tribute DVD ‘Concert For George’.
The other thing the Grammys are famous for is the massive list of different awards, 104 different categories in fact. From the standard ‘Record Of The Year’ and ‘Best Song’ awards to the frankly baffling ‘Best Country Collaboration With Vocals (For A Collaborative Performance, With Vocals, By Artists Who Do Not Normally Perform Together - Singles Or Tracks Only)’, the wonderful ‘Best Polka Album’ and our personal favourite ‘Best Jazz Vocal Album For Albums Containing 51% Or More Playing Time Of Vocal Tracks)'.
The winners of the 47th Annual Grammy Awards will be announced February 13 at the Staples Center, New York.
