Charlotte Hatherley 'Grey Will Fade'

Charlotte Hatherley sets out on a promising solo-mission, unveiling her Cardigans-esque, cheery pop tunes for a summer feeling all year round. Listen to her new album 'Grey Will Fade' right here.

Charlotte Hatherley has certainly never lacked confidence, her first ever gig as a guitarist for Ash was in front of 40,000 people at the V97 festival. But who would have guessed that behind the icy facade of one of indie Britain's most 'real' female characters hides a pop princess?

Recorded  in California alongside Ash's latest album, (during which time Charlotte also found time to do backing vocals for Swedish punk rockers International Noise Conspiracy) 'Grey Will Fade' is an accomplished solo debut - first single  'Kim Wilde' was instantly playlisted at Xfm and the guitarist's vocal talents have been compared to the likes of Bjork and, er, The Corrs.

'Kim Wilde' kicks off the album on a cheery pop-note before 'Rescue Plan' takes us into more familiar rock territory as well as showcasing her deeper and more sensual side. On 'Paragon', Hatherley goes back to the fast and merry pop format, similar to the Cardigans earlier material, followed by next single 'Summer', sweeping in like a light breeze. Next up is 'Down', slow, blue and soulful with a simple, effective chorus, 'Why You Wanna?' is yet another cheery hit, as is 'Bastardo' (but pay attention to the lyrics, being robbed of her guitar might just be the worst thing Hatherley could imagine).
