Bob Dylan To Headline Fleadh Festival

added 06 April 2004 at 12.05

Folk-rock legend Bob Dylan has announced that he will headline this year's Fleadh festival in June and, in a bizarre move, has also signed a deal with a US lingerie company to front their new underwear campaign.

Mean Fiddler have announced that Dylan will headline the celebration of Irish music in London in June. A total of 30,000 tickets will go on sale and the event will feature two stages with over 20 acts performing including Delays and Counting Crows.

Returning after a year away, the Fleadh was not held last year in London after problems arranging a headline act but organisers said they were determined to make sure it returned this summer.

Melvin Benn, managing director of the Mean Fiddler, said today: "We are particularly pleased to see the Fleadh back in London after its absence last year which was noted by many people."

In other Dylan news, the legendary folk star is set to appear in a TV advert for underwear manufacturer Victoria's Secret and will release a CD of his songs exclusively through the designer's stores.

The advert shows the 63-year-old at the Palazzo in Venice leering at a scantily dressed model wearing angels' wings as a remix of his 1997 song 'Love Sick' is played.

This will be the first time Dylan has appeared in a commercial in his 40-year career although in the past he has lent his music to be used in ads.

"I can't speak for his motivation, but it certainly wouldn't be commercial," a spokesperson for Dylan's record label said: "We think this is a great way to reach people with Bob's music. We're thrilled that he said 'yes' when we asked him to be in the commercial."

The official confirmation of the rest of the bands appearing at Fleadh, and the days and stages on which they'll all appear is set to be announced soon, so check Xfm Online's Festival Guide for all the latest news.
