Basement Jaxx To Play Glastonbury

added 09 January 2004 at 10.41

According to a new interview Basement Jaxx are the first band to confirm that they will be playing this year’s Glastonbury festival in June, while Robert Smith has hinted that The Cure may be appearing as well.

The duo of Simon Ratcliffe and Felix Buxton revealed the news that they would be playing the event and that punters can expect a more ‘live band’ oriented performance.

“We've got a drummer and Simon plays guitar in most of the set and there's more vocalists," Buxton explained to Radio 1, “So it's less of a show and more of a live band musical experience. And live visually it's taking things to the next level as well.

"We're at the front of the stage doing a bit of a guitar solo in a snakeskin thong, it's really raw. The ladies - you've got to watch out in the front row, you're gonna get some serious sweat going from all parts of the body."

In other Glasto news, The Cure’s Robert Smith has also hinted the legendary goth outfit will be taking the stage at Micheal Eavis’ three day event. Onetime regulars of the festival, The Cure last appeared there in 1995.

Having only recently been given a Public Entertainments Licence, the 2004 Glastonbury Festival will be taking place from June 25-27. There will be 112,500 three-day tickets available (the same as in 2003) and they are expected to go on sale in March or April.

Basement Jaxx’s full upcoming UK tour dates are:

  • Glasgow, Academy (March 12)
  • Manchester, Apollo (13)
  • Nottingham, Rock City (15)
  • Newport, Live Arena (16)
  • Brixton Academy, London (19)
