Strokes Cover The Clash In London

The Strokes ended their UK tour this weekend with two dates at Alexandra Palace in North London. The gigs witnessed a storming cover of The Clash’s ‘Clampdown’ and the live debut of The Strokes' duet with fellow New Yorker singer/songwriter Regina Spektor.

The band played the two sold out shows on December 5 and 6 and were joined onstage during both of the nights by Regina Spektor who duetted on the new song ‘Post Modern Girls’ which is destined to appear on the B-side to The Strokes' new single ‘Reptilia’.

The New York based pianist and singer/songwriter Spektor is signed to Strokes producer Gordon Raphael’s Shoplifter Records label.

The second night saw the band grappling with technical difficulties early on when the PA system cut out halfway through their third song, but (as with the previous night) the set included a triumphant cover of The Clash’s  ‘Clampdown’, off their classic 1979 album ‘London Calling’.

Celebrities at the gig included Oasis’ guitarist Gem Archer, members of The Libertines and Bernard Butler.

The London dates mark the end of The Strokes European tour, though they are playing a New Years Eve gig at the Cox Pavilion in Las Vegas alongside Kings Of Leon and are rumoured to be playing a series of UK festivals this summer.

The Strokes new single, the second taken off ‘Room On Fire’, entitled ‘Reptilia’ is released on Rough Trade Records on Monday January 12.
