South Guitarist Injured

While the release date for their new album is still a while away, South suffered something of a setback this week as their guitarist Jamie McDonald damaged his hand, causing the cancellation of the band's upcoming US and UK tour dates.

According to a statement from the band's record company, McDonald injured himself as the result of a rather over enthusiastic sporting incident.

"Grim news I'm afraid." It reads, "Jamie our guitarist broke his wrist on Saturday playing footy (went in for a crunching tackle) so no gigs for at least 8 - 10 weeks depending on how quickly he gets his wrist back into action (it's his left wrist too - his fret playing hand - the US tour will have to go back too now

"Anyway we went to see him up at the royal free yesterday after he was operated on and he's okay considering (probably mostly thanks to heavy doses of morphine)."

As mentioned, the group's US tour is being rearranged and a UK date at Heebeegeebees in Liverpool on September 18 has been cancelled, but the band will still be DJing at the Barfly in Camden on September 12 as they still have "five capable hands between the three of them."

The follow up to South's debut album, 'From Here On In' is to be entitled 'With The Tides' and is set to be released January 2004 on Double Dragon Records. Elsewhere, South singer Joel Cadbury features on a track on the forthcoming U.N.K.L.E. album 'Never Never Land'.
