Simple Kid In ‘Drugs’ And Robot Shocker

Ciaran McFeely aka Simple Kid announces details of a new single, live dates and the company he’ll be keeping on his trip round the country.

The Irish singer-songwriter has announced that the next single to be released from his ‘Simple Kid 1’ album will be seemingly controversially titled ‘Drugs’, released November 10. But for those of you already with one hand on the phone to the Daily Mail, it is, in fact, a “definition of what constitutes the opium of the people: and in this case it’s not just religion.”

McFeely and his band will also be embarking on a nationwide tour of the UK throughout October and November supporting both Travis and fellow Irishmen, The Thrills, as well as playing a headline show at the London ICA (October 21).

With his scattergun eclecticism drawing many comparisons to Beck, the Kid seems out to challenge the king of weird funk himself in the bizarre stakes, by bringing a new friend out on the road with him. The ‘Baby Kid’ robot will make its first-ever public appearance at the London ICA gig with fans able to hold a two-way conversation with the robot as they arrive at the venue.

If you can’t wait that long, however, the robot is currently to be found at Simple Kid’s website where you can discuss the current political situation in the Middle East, or alternatively just send it rude messages.

Rumour has it that the Kid is also planning some bizarre new shows for 2004 under the guise of Sample Kid, though what shenanigans this will involve is anyone’s guess.

Tickets for the London ICA show are priced £7 and are available from the Xfm Xchange on 0870 121 1049 and online from the Xfm Live Gig Guide by clicking here.
