Pearl Jam In All Star Jam

Outrageously earnest US rockers Pearl Jam were joined onstage at a gig last night by a positive plethora of celebrity musical mates, including Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante and Soundgarden/Audioslave singer Chris Cornell.

The gig took place last night (October 28) in Santa Barbara, California at a benefit concert for the Louis Warschaw Prostate Cancer Center.

Even before the special guests appeared the audience had already witnessed Pearl Jam perform cover versions of Johnny Cash's ‘25 Minutes To Go’, the Ramones' ‘I Believe in Miracles' and a new Pearl Jam tune entitled ‘Man of the Hour’ reports Billboard.

Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder joked to the audience saying "We didn't invite any of the shitty friends," before the band was joined by their former drummer Jack Irons, singer Jack Johnson, guitarist Lyle Workman and more interestingly Chili Peppers fret-wrangler John Frusciante.

Frusciante played on versions of Ramones' ‘Daytime Dilemma’, before the notoriously antisocial Soundgarden and Audioslave frontman Chris Cornell joined the ensemble onstage. In the early ‘90s Cornell had previously been in the Pearl Jam/Soundgarden side project ‘Temple Of The Dog’.

Cornell sang Audioslave's ‘Like a Stone’, then duetted with Vedder on Temple Of The Dog's ‘Hunger Strike’ and ‘Reach Down’, the first time both songs had been performed live for nearly ten years.

The crew all then returned to the stage for a six-guitar version of The Byrds' ‘So You Wanna Be a Rock'n'Roll Star.’
