New Air Album Unveiled In London

added 01 October 2003 at 11.15

Coffee table-friendly Parisian electro duo Air have completed their new record with acclaimed Radiohead, Beck, Travis (and nearly Strokes) producer Nigel Godrich and held an exclusive playback of the highly anticipated album in London.

The new album was recorded by the band (Jean-Benoît Dunckel and Nicholas Godin) in  their native Paris and is entitled ‘Talkie Walkie’ and is expected to be released on Virgin Records on January 27.

The album was given an exclusive playback to record company executives last week (September 24) at the Electric Cinema in west London, with both members of the famously reclusive band present.

After Air’s less than rapturously received last album (2001's ‘prog lounge’ opus ‘10,000 Hz Legend’) Xfm’s source claims the album is a return to the form of their classic debut ‘Moon Safari’.

Our sources also said that the duo were "exquisitely dressed".

The choice of producer is a strange one (the pair produce and engineer their own material), however Godrich mixed the band’s last project ‘City Reading (Tre Storie Western)’, a spoken word/poetry collaboration with Italian author Alessandro Baricco, which came out earlier this year.

For the first time ‘Talkie Walkie’  reportedly also features Dunckel and Godin singing all the vocals, including on the track ‘Alone in Kyoto’ which is featured on ‘Lost in Translation’ the new film by Sofia Coppola (who also directed ‘The Virgin Suicides’ for which Air provided the soundtrack in 1999).

The full tracklisting of ‘Talkie Walkie’  is:

  • 'Venus'
  • 'Cherry Blossom Girl'
  • 'Run'
  • 'Universal Traveller'
  • 'Mike Mills'
  • 'Surfin' on a Rock'
  • 'Another Day'
  • 'Alpha Beta Gaga'
  • 'Biological'
  • 'Alone in Kyoto'
