Johnny Cash Honoured At Country Music Awards

Music legend Johnny Cash was remembered throughout last night’s (November 5) ceremony for the Country Music Awards in Nashville, and was posthumously awarded three awards for his celebrated last album ‘American Recording IV: The Man Comes Around’.
Cash was awarded album, single and video of the year at the ceremony last night (November 5) with his acclaimed version of Trent Reznor penned and Rick Rubin produced track ‘Hurt’ receiving the most plaudits. Surprising, this was Cash’s first win at the CMAs since 1969.
His daughter Kathy and son John Carter Cash accepted the awards on his behalf. "It's amazing my father had such a life that he could expose himself and still never lose his dignity and his charm," John told the audience about his father’s famously personal writing style.
"It's been a pretty tough year, pretty intense," he continued, referring to the families tragedies this year: Johnny’s death in September, his wife June Carter Cash’s passing last May and most recently the accidental death of his stepdaughter Rosey Nix Adams, who was found dead last month. "But coming here tonight is almost like a beginning for my father in a lot of ways,"
The end of the evening brought a loving tribute to The Man in Black, by Willie Nelson, Hank Williams, Jr., Travis Tritt, Sheryl Crow, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and Kris Kristofferson.
The sang a medley of some Cash tunes including ‘I Walk the Line’, ‘Jackson’ and ‘Ring of Fire’ against the backdrop of a photo retrospective of Cash’s career. The performance ended in with a massive standing ovation from the crowd, some of whom wore shirts and armbands which simply stated, 'Cash' in tribute to the man.
