John Lennon: The Musical?

Yoko Ono has given the go ahead to a Broadway musical with the story following the life of her late husband and legendary Beatle, John Lennon.
The show, rumoured to be titled ‘The Lennon Project’, will follow Lennon’s life and his transformation from rocker to meditation guru, with 12 different actors each playing one of the different 'personalities' of the former Beatle.
Much of the music in the show will come from Lennon's solo post-Beatles repertoire and is expected to hit the Broadway stage in time for the 2004/2005 season. Around 30 Lennon compositions are rumoured to be included in the final production.
Yoko Ono commented,
"His message of love and peace is very, very important - especially now".
Among the different personalities to be portrayed are “the rocker, the hippie, the meditation guru, the transcendentalist, the political revolutionary [and] the house husband,” explain producers Edgar Lansbury and Don Scardino, “but all the time there was the evolving artist."
Details of the roles of Paul McCartney and the other Beatles in the forthcoming show have not yet been divulged as the show is only in its initial stages of production. However, one would expect that a show of Lennon’s life would be impossible to produce accurately without the remaining members of the band playing a significant role.
Lennon is the next in an increasingly long list of musicians’ lives to be turned into Broadway shows that includes Abba, Queen and, most recently, Rod Stewart.
Yoko Ono has also been busy editing a new promo video for the Lennon classic ‘Happy Xmas (War is Over)’ featuring harrowing footage from around the world including the collapse of the World Trade Centre and the war in Iraq. The video is to be included on a new DVD, ‘Lennon Legend’, due for an October 27 and will feature alongside 20 other tracks and unseen footage.
