Blur Demo Album Revealed

Xfm Online can reveal that Blur and Gorillaz frontman Damon Albarn will be releasing ‘Democrazy’ (his collection of demos and work in progress songs) by the end of the year. Just in time for Christmas.
The album was recorded by Albarn on a basic four track machine in various hotel rooms while the singer was touring with Blur in America earlier this year.
Albarn has been at pains to point out that ‘Democrazy’ is not a fully-fledged Blur record, or even the start of a third musical career as a purely solo artist, rather it’s a collection of raw demos and unformed song fragments which he hopes will give people insight into his writing techniques.
"It deconstructs everything the music industry has built up," Albarn has said to Billboard "But I thought it would be interesting to let people hear a side to the music-making process they never get to hear. It's the lowest lo-fi record ever.
"I hope it gives other people the confidence to put out records like this. I'd like to make it a series."
The album will be coming out on Albarn’s own record label, Honest John’s, which previously released ‘Mali Music’, the singer’s collaboration with various African artists.
‘Democrazy’ has a planned release date of December 1 and will reportedly only be available on vinyl in a limited edition of 5,000 copies.
While Blur have announced a series of UK tour dates this winter (including a special gig at the Coronet Theatre) it’s also rumoured Albarn himself will play his first ever solo show on December 22 somewhere in London.
Blur’s full UK tour dates are:
- Glasgow Barrowlands (November (20, 21 & 22)
- Liverpool Royal Court (24)
- Wolverhampton Civic Hall (25 & 26)
- Manchester Apollo (28 & 29)

- London Brixton Academy (December 2, 3 & 4)
- Coronet Theatre, London (5)
