The Chris Cornell fronted Soundgarden/Rage Against The Machine supergroup Audioslave have revealed that they've already started work on the follow up to their self titled debut album.

The band are currently in the middle of a session on the travelling Lollapalooza festival tour with Queens Of The Stone Age and Jane's Addiction, but have plans to start recording a new record as soon as the jaunt finishes at the end of August.

Speaking to 94.7 Zone, Audioslave bassist Tim Commerford explained the band have been working on new material on the tour backstage and on the tour bus.

"We have a few ideas that we've recorded, you know. And that process is starting up again and it's a whole different frame of mind." He explained, "And we're getting into that frame of mind and so it's going to happen. I'm excited about that.

"I know the second record is going to be a lot better than this one. We've known each other for years now. We've played together quite a bit. The first record was twenty days and here's the first twenty songs we wrote or whatever."

Is also appears that the new record could be even heavier than the last one, with Commerford explaining that the band are "going to make more rock", but didn't specify when the band would be returning to the studio.

Audioslave are also planning the release of a new DVD later this autumn. The DVD will include  the band's three videos ('Show Me How To Live', 'Cochise' and 'Like A Stone') two songs from their David Letterman debut performance on the roof of the Ed Sullivan Theater and extensive interview footage with all four band members.
