New Oasis Album Nearly Featured Donkey Noises

Donkey noises, duck callings and bag pipes. Welcome to the world of Liam Gallagher’s wacky sample requests.

In an exclusive Track-By-Track rundown of the band’s new record with Xposure’s John Kennedy, Noel Gallagher and Gem Archer let slip on singer Liam’s bizarre requests for song samples.

The band were referring to ‘Dig Out Your Soul’ track ‘I’m Outta Time’, which concludes with a quote from John Lennon along the lines of: ‘As Churchill said, it's every Englishman's inalienable right to live where the hell he likes. What's England going to do, vanish? It's not going to be there when I get back?’

Archer told: “I think Liam was hearing it in his head before it was there, like he might have gone ‘Let’s have a donkey on it’ or ‘A brass solo’… It’s from a cassette bought in Currys with a faded biro.”

Noel continued: “At the end of ‘Rock ’n’Roll Star’ in the mad bit he wanted someone playing the bag pipes and those duck calling things. This was in 1993, and that’s the last time I took him seriously for any musical direction.”

And as if ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll Star’ with duck callings wasn’t enough of a mind-blow to imagine, Gallagher continued to shelve out the incredible stories of Liam’s bizarre fantasies.

Speaking about the band’s recent visit to the Dakota building in New York to meet Yoko Ono, he revealed: “He (Liam) came back and said ‘It’s freaky. I went in there and I felt a chill’. ‘Sure it wasn’t the air conditioning?’ ‘No, John’s in there, man.’”
