Xfm Rock School

This is the third time we've run Rock School and every year the bands get better and better. Check out the photos from Rock School 2007 and 2006 to get an idea of what you can expect.

What’s up for grabs?
1. The winning band will bag £1,000 to spend on music equipment for their school at Dawsons together with a day’s recording at the Xfm Manchester studios. You’ll record as many tracks as possible to make up an album.

2. All bands starting out need a rock mentor and yours will come in the shape of our very own Clint Boon. Having notched up countless gigs and festivals with his band The Inspiral Carpets, Clint knows a thing or two about the music biz.

3. Once the music’s sorted all you’ve got to worry about is the look. A rock ‘n roll makeover courtesy of Bench should ensure you look the part, ready for the final part of your prize: a professional photoshoot with legendary rock photographer Shirlaine Forrest.

Shirlane has photographed tonnes of bands from Coldplay, Radiohead and Muse to Metallica, Lilly Allen and Amy Winehouse. She has also directed music videos with a variety of pop acts and is featured on the official websites of several bands including Fightstar, Kasabian and Unkle, and CD covers include Aim, The Courteeners and The Longcut. 

Deadline for entries has now gone. Clint has whittled down all the entries to ten finalists and now it's up to you Xfm listeners to vote for your favourite here. The top three bands will compete in a live final at the Roadhouse in Manchester on December 10, which will be broadcast live on Xfm.
