Cobain's Ashes Still Safe With Love

added 02 October 2008 at 10.56

It turns out the late Nirvana front man's ashes were never stolen from the home of his widow, Courtney Love.

As reported back in June, Cobain's ashes were kept in a "pink teddy bear-shaped bag along with a lock of his hair", and taken from Love's Hollywood home along with clothes and jewellery.

However, her publicist, Alan Nierob, told Gigwise that Cobain's remains "were never taken" and that the story had been "erroneously reported".

Nierob was reacting to claims made by German artist, Natascha Stellmach, who said she would smoke the Nirvana legend's ashes as part of an exhibition at a Berlin gallery later this month.

When asked how she discovered the ashes, Stellmach told Artworld magazine: "That's confidential and kind of magic. They came to me. And I am setting him free."
