Xfm Meets Guillemots

After the release of their second album 'Red' Guillemots spoke to Xfm all about the album, writing collaboratively and their number one fan, Sir Ian McKellen, appearing in their forthcoming video.

With 'Red' in stores now, Fyfe Dangerfield, leader of the Guillemots, discussed the record's change of direction and quashed rumours that they were advertising for a fifth member on MySpace. 

The new album 'Red' seems to have had a change of direction...?

"Yeah, I suppose so.  It's just us doing what we felt like doing..." [Listen To Full Answer]

It seems the second album is quite R&B and pop influenced.  What has created that shift?

"Yeah- the R&B thing.  It's funny 'cause it's amazing how one person mentions it..." [Listen To Full Answer]

With such a difference in sound between both records, what could we expect for the third album?

"I think the third album will probably be us playing live in a room..." [Listen To Full Answer]

All four members of Guillemots wrote this album, how was that?

Was it quite liberating writing as a four or was it constrictive?

Apparently you were advertising for a 5th member on MySpace, can you tell us about that?

Your video for the next single, 'Falling Out Of Reach', features Sir Ian McKellen. How did that come about?

"It's a strange one really, he's kind of been into the band for a while..." [Listen To Full Answer]

And what about the fan mail you received from Paul McCartney?

Is there anyone else you would like to work with?

You were on the Lily Allen show recently, how was that?

"I kind of spent most of it at the bar with Phil Jupitus..." [Listen To Full Answer]

Hypothetically, the four of the Guillemots are in a hot air Balloon and you have to throw one of them out.  Who would it be?
