Bez Missed Out on Julia Roberts Date

Shaun Ryder's been telling Xfm's Danny Wallace about the time Hollywood film star Julia Roberts tried to crack on to Bez at the Viper Room in LA in the early 90s.

"Pretty Woman had just come out and we watched the movie going over to the States on the plane," he explained while appearing on the Xfm Breakfast show.

"Bez didn't watch it and didn't have a clue who Julia Roberts was. When we got in the Viper she made pretty much a beeline for him. She had this bodyguard called Evil who Bez was more interested in. "Who's Julia Roberts?" [Bez asked]. She invited him back to her place but I think he went for a drink with Evil."

The story features in his autobiography - Twisting My Melon - which is out now and also includes tales of alien encounters.

"In the late 70s to the early 80s - and it definitely wasn't drug induced or anything like that - I'd seen a couple of wierd things," the singer elaborated.

"The second time I ever saw anything was about 6.30-7 in the morning and this thing was just whizzing about in the skies doing mad acrobatic movements."

Last week the singer confessed that he had trouble writing the book as he can't remember anything that happened between 1990 and 2006.
