Animal Collective on ‘Merriweather Post Pavilion’

Nine years, eight albums. But only now have Animal Collective built their most pop record to date. Hear them talk John Kennedy through the making of ‘Merriweather Post Pavilion’…
For those unaware, Animal Collective are, well, a collective. A communal band of forward-thinkers who go by the distinct names of Panda Bear, Avey Tare, Deakin and Geologist. They make psych-folk, noise-rock, neo-psych, psych-noise, whatever you wanna call it.
And their eighth and latest album, ‘Merriweather Post Pavilion’ is arguably their most pop-loaded to date. Dave and Brian (oh, we mean Avey Tare and Geologist) dropped by X-posure for an exclusive track-by-track rundown with John Kennedy…
Listen To Part One – They talk about the history of the band, recording the new album, and their love for the studio.
Listen To Part Two – They talk about opening track, ‘In The Flowers’, and ‘My Girls’.
Listen To Part Three – They talk about ‘Also Frightened’, and getting compared to The Beach Boys.
Listen To Part Four – They talk about ‘Summertime Clothes’, the influence of Panda Bear’s Lisbon-base, and ‘Daily Routine’.
Listen To Part Five – They talk about their live performance, their ‘psychedelic warrior’ public perception, and ‘Bluish’.
Listen To Part Six – They talk about the album title, their wish to play in amphitheatres, and ‘Guys Eyes’.
Listen To Part Seven – They talk about ‘Taste’, and sorting the album’s tracklisting.
Listen To Part Eight – They talk about ‘Lion In A Coma’, their use of the jaw harp, and ‘No More Runnin’.
Listen To Part Nine – They talk about ‘Brother Sport’, their plans for a new album, and a visual film.
