Since the release of their last album, The Music have been dropped by their previous label and come perilously close to splitting up. In this exclusive interview they tell Xfm how they fought back to record their new collection, 'Strength In Numbers'.
Its been four years since your last album. What's been happening since then?
"We needed to get off the road for a bit and get back to normaility..." [Listen To Full Answer]
What happened to the relationships within the band?
"We've never been big on talking...it was a case of putting down the ego..." [Listen To Full Answer]
When did you sense that you'd come to the end of the road?
"It was a really difficult time...especially when we were dropped"...[Listen To Full Answer]
Did it get worse before you decided to turn it around as a band?
"I'd rather be at home doing nothing...that was when we questioned, is it worth it?..." [Listen To Full Answer]
The new album is a change in direction for you. You worked with Paul Hartnoll, how was that?
"Anything that make's an interesing noise can give birth to a song..." [Listen To Full Answer]
Did you make the record with the live performances in mind?
"It's the opposite of how we used to work...we used beats and sequences to get inspired..." [Listen To Full Answer]
When you last spoke to Xfm, you said that 'Strength In Numbers' was a protest song. Is there a theme of protest throughout the album?
"It's a journey of what we've been through...we've just been living inside our heads" [Listen To Full Answer]
Are you guys wary of falling out again?
"All great bands hate each other. Fleetwood Mac hate each other, Stones hate each other..." [Listen To Full Answer]
What do you make of the other bands that have come out of Leeds?
"It's a different world...it's all very stylised in everything they do..." [Listen To Full Answer]
Have you got any plans for touring or festivals?
"The albums out on the 16th...Fiji and a Korean festival, then Australia..." [Listen To Full Answer]
