Xfm Meets Keane

Keane front man Tom Chaplin dropped by Xfm for an exclusive interview to talk all things ‘Spiralling’, expanding to a four-piece and the art of Queen/Bowie classic ‘Under Pressure’.
Keane are back. Only they’ve added Jesse Quin on bass, they’ve got a brand new Korean-inspired sculpture look and they’ve jumped out of the middle of the road to make themselves one fat lot of glitzy 80s electro-tinged pop.
So excited at the prospect of new album, ‘Perfect Symmetry’, front man Tom Chaplin dropped by Xfm for an exclusive interview. Listen below…
How was it to win the Q Award for ‘Spiralling’ as Best Track?
“It was a surprise… I just read their review and ‘Spiralling’ was the only song they didn’t like. So it was ironic that the readers voted for ‘Sprialling’ as song of the year!” [Listen To Full Answer]
How does ‘Spiralling’ compare with the rest of the record?
“We made it very instinctively. It was a case of having fun with all the songs we had… The rest of it is a big departure from what people are used to hearing from Keane.” [Listen To Full Answer]
How has expanding to a four-piece affected the writing and recording process?
“Jesse came in to do a War Child show we did last year. We were doing ‘Under Pressure’ so we desperately needed someone to play bass. He’s an incredible musician, he puts us all to shame really.” [Listen To Full Answer]
After performing ‘Under Pressure’ with new member Jesse, is he the David Bowie to your Freddie Mercury?
“He can sing. I’m not sure I’d say he’s as good as David Bowie!” [Listen To Full Answer]
